Kleine Brogel spotters day 8 June 2005:

They did it again!!

On Wednesday 8 June 2005 Kleine Brogel air base organised another event for aviation enthusiasts. A fantastic line up of both new and old aircraft. And this was only a warm up for a bigger event in July! On the 20th of July the 7th international spotters day will be held at the Belgian air base. Three times hurray for the organisation!!!

No less the 6 Czech L-159 Alcas were on a squadron rotation for some two weeks at KB. A good opportunity for a spotters day the organisation must have thought. And as if this wasn't enough, they arranged more. Again they succeeded in attracting some very interesting aircraft which are about to dissapear from the scene. In addidtion to the six Czech aircraft there was also a MiG-21MFN from this air force. In fact two were on the schedule but the second one remained at its home base due to technical problems. In just a few more months this type will dissapear from the Czech skies!

Another spectacular participant was the Mirage IVP. As its days are numbered as well, this might be its last appearance outside the French boudaries. In two weeks from now a farewell cermony will take place at its home base Mont de Marsan in south France. Furthermore there were two fly bys of two French Jaguars which are about to retire as well. So appart from the Czech, the French were very kind to us too.

Then the organisation announced a special guest. They didn't mention the type, just a well respected oldie. A lot of speculation started out in aviation enthusiast country. Maybe it is a Canberra, or a Sk37 which is on exercise at Lechfeld. Could it be the bare metal Fouga Magister from the Belgian Air Force? Well, when we entered the base, we saw a German Phantom parked between the Mirage IV and the MiG-21. This appeared to be our mistery but welcome guest.

Last but not least was an incoming Boeing C-17A Globemaster III, which happened to have an operational mission to Kleine Brogel, coincidentally on this day. The belgians also showed off with their F-16s. A number of them took off, among them their Tiger bird. After the mass launch two L-159s, the Mirage 4, the MiG-21 and several F-16s, they surprised us with a formation flight of the Mirage, the two L-159s and two F-16s. Another surprise was that the MiG-21 was missing in the formation and apparently left for its home base Caslav.

A BIG compliment and a BIG thank you for the outstanding organisation. We are warmed up for the 20th of July now!!
